This faithful adaptation of Charles Dickens' second novel is an exciting, fast-moving melodrama about the adventures of an orphan redeemed from a life of cruel poverty and crime by an act of unselfish courage. Filled with an atmosphere of mystery, its major characters—Fagin, Bill Sikes, Mr. Bumble, Nancy, and the Artful Dodger—are some of the most theatrically realized characters in all of literature. The Yorkshire Children's Theatre uses children ages who have completed first grade to those who have completed their junior year in high-school to fill all the character roles. Rehearsals will begin on June 2 and run through the month of June, beginning each morning at 8:00 a.m. and going until 11:00 a.m. The performances are scheduled for June 26, 27, and 28 at 7:00 p.m., and June 28 and July 29 at 2:00 p.m. The aim of the Yorkshire Children's Theatre is to teach children about theatre, how to perform on stage and to give the children of York County an enjoyable artistic experience. There are roughly 32-40 parts in Oliver Twist, due to a limited number of roles in the production; children are required to audition for a role in the production. Auditions will be held at the Yorkshire Playhouse May 7 and 9 from 3:30 to 6:30, and May 10 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. An audition time can be reserved by calling the Yorkshire Playhouse at 362-3678 Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 12 to 5 p.m., Friday, from 12 to 3 p.m., or Saturday from 10-12 p.m., beginning May 5. If you show up at the door without a reserved time your child will be given the nearest time available. Please show up 15-minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out an audition form. Unfortunately, not all children who audition can be selected for the production. Please prepare your children for the possibility of not making the production after auditioning. Those who make the production are expected to be at all rehearsals, and ready to work on the show. Theatre is team art. Everyone is important, and without complete cast commitment, then the show suffers. Each child participating in The Yorkshire Children's Theatre must pay a joining fee of $35.00. If you have more than one child in the show the fee is $60.00. The fee includes the production script, production T-shirt and two tickets for the production. Fees are only paid by those who make the production. Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the fees. If you have any questions you can call me at my office phone 363-5640. I hope to see you at the auditions. Sincerely, John I. Baker III
