Children’s Theatre 2010 – THE PATCHWORK GIRL OF OZ
Yorkshire Playhouse Children’s Theater Program

Auditions for the summer 2010 Yorkshire Playhouse Children's Theatre production of The Patchwork Girl of Oz are coming soon. The Yorkshire Children's Theatre uses children who have completed first grade to those who have completed their junior year in high-school to fill all the character roles. Rehearsals will begin on May 31and run through the month of June, beginning each morning at 8:30 a.m. and going until 11:30 a.m. The performances are schedule for June 24, 25, and 26 at 7:00 p.m., and June 27 at 2:00 p.m. The aim of the Yorkshire Children's Theatre is to teach children about theatre, how to perform on stage, and to give the children of York County an enjoyable artistic experience.

There are roughly 40 parts in The Patchwork Girl of Oz, due to a limited number of roles in the production; children are required to audition for a role in the production. Auditions will be held at the Yorkshire Playhouse May 5 and 7 from 3:30 to 6:15, and May 8 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. An audition time can be reserved by calling the Yorkshire Playhouse at 362-3678 Monday May 3, Tuesday May 4 & Thursday May 6 between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday May 5 between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time to fill out an audition form. Unfortunately, not all children who audition can be selected for the production. Please prepare your children for the possibility of not making the production after auditioning. Those who make the production are expected to be at all rehearsals, and ready to work on the show. Theatre is team art. Everyone is important, and without complete cast commitment, the final production suffers.

Each participant in The Yorkshire Children's Theatre must pay a joining fee of $40.00 to be in the production. The fee includes the production script, production T-shirt and two tickets for the production. Fees are only paid by those who make the production. Scholarships are available for families who cannot afford the fees.

SHOW SYNOPSIS:
The magical practices and potions of the Land of Oz is the thread running through The Patchwork Girl. The story begins with a visit by a young Munchkin lad, Ojo the Unlucky, who with his Unc Nunkie visit a reclusive magician, Dr. Pipt. The old sorcerer has just completed the six year task of brewing a spoonful of the Powder of Life, and is preparing to administer it to a life-sized rag doll made by his wife Margolotte. The intent is to create a servant to help his wife in her chores, but unbeknownst to the magician, Ojo doctors the doll's brains. In the confusion that erupts as the Powder of Life performs its miracle, Margolotte and Unc Nunkie are turned into marble statues and
the Patchwork Girl is brought to life quite unfit to ever be a servant. To restore life to the two hapless victims, Ojo undertakes a quest to find the ingredients for an antidote to the enchantment, accompanied by the Patchwork Girl and the Glass Cat, another creation of Dr. Pipt. A series of adventures ensue, as they brave new challenges and meet new and amazing peoples and lands in their hunt for the magical ingredients. Through the trials of this grand quest Ojo learns that he is no longer presumed to be ill-fated by circumstance of birth, and is known henceforth as Ojo the Lucky.
