. . . . . . 2008 Season . . . . . .
The Yorkshire Playhouse is pleased to announce its 2008 season...
WINTER SHOW: SOCIAL SECURITY by Andrew Bergman.
Written by one of Hollywood's top comedy screenwriters, this hilarious comedy about a married couple who are art dealers. Their domestic tranquility is shattered upon the arrival of the wife's goody goody nerd of a sister, her uptight CPA husband and her Archetypal Jewish Mother. They are there to try to save their college student daughter from the horrors of living only for sex. The comic sparks really begin to fly when the mother hits it off with the elderly minimalist artist who is the art dealer's best client!
SPRING SHOW: THE GLASS MENAGERIE by Tennessee Williams.
May 1-4 & 8-11
Amanda Wingfield is a faded, tragic remnant of Southern gentility who lives in poverty in a dingy St. Louis apartment with her son, Tom, and her daughter, Laura. Tom is driven nearly to distraction by his mother's nagging and seeks escape in alcohol and the unrealistic world of the movies. Tom invites a young man, Jim, to dinner. He is at once pounced upon by Amanda as a possible husband for Laura. He and Laura manage to get along very nicely but this crashes when, toward the end, Jim explains he is already engaged.
SUMMER PRODUCTION at York High School: JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR® DREAMCOAT
August 7-10
Lyrics by Tim Rice; Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber
The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams and his father’s favor. When his brothers sell him into slavery and send him to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by the Potiphars, where his refusals of advances from the missus land him in jail. When news of Joseph’s talent for interpreting dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself, leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.
FALL PRODUCTION: AN EVENING OF CULTURE-FAITH COUNTY II by Mark Landon Smith.
October 9-12 & 16-19
The gang from last season’s “Faith County” are back. This time they are set to produce their own version of Romeo and Juliet by “Bill Shakespear”. You know things are going to get tense when Neomi Farkle-Carson and Midred Hayworth-Carson butt heads over who is going to play Juliet and poor Delbert just can’t get the set finished in time for the curtain to go up. Ruthann and Violet try their best to keep things organized, but things seem to go a different direction in Faith County.
