Interested in becoming a Member of the Yorkshire Playhouse Board of Directors?

Theatre is a communal art. It is beautiful and complex and involves artists, dreamers, and doers in every aspect of the process. The actors on stage often get most of the attention, but behind every great performance is a community. The Board of Directors is involved in the Producing of theatre. If you’re interested in helping create art by being a part of the decision making and organizing of the theatre, then joining Yorkshire Playhouse Board is a great way to be involved!

The Yorkshire Playhouse is entirely a volunteer run organization. Our wonderful Board of Directors, along with a core group of Lead Volunteers, are responsible for the operation of our theatre, including producing five mainstage shows, one summer children’s theatre program, the Yorkshire Playhouse Playwriting Contest, fundraising and membership drives, and much more. This working Board meets every second Tuesday of the month. In addition, Board Members are expected to lead on one of four committees which help to oversee theatre operations. They are also involved in productions in one or more different areas. And, of course, one of the main functions of the Board is to help our community be involved and inclusive, so they recruit volunteers and help organize different projects around the theatre. It might sound like a big job, but we have a lot of fun doing it. We believe that with a strong community we can accomplish just about anything.

The Yorkshire Playhouse Board Members are elected by the Members of the Yorkshire Playhouse. Every May we hold an annual meeting at which the Board gets a chance to interact with Playhouse Members, and a vote is held to select Board Members from the Nominees. Board Members are elected to a three year term, and up to five Board Members can be elected every year. Nominees must be or become an Member of the Yorkshire Playhouse and be nominated by a Playhouse Member.

At the request of Playhouse Members who can not always attend the meeting, early voting is held beginning at our spring show and continues until the Annual Meeting. Members have also requested that we provide them with bios of Nominees. Voting can be done online, at the spring show, or during the Annual Meeting.
