NEW SEASON: Because Their Hearts Were Pure (or The Secret of the Mine)

There’s nothing like a good melodrama! “What is a melodrama?” you may be asking! In a melodrama, characters are exaggerated and full of emotion. Heroes go on quests to save civilians from evil villains! Villains scheme and plot their dastardly deeds to take down the heroes! And the best part? The audience can boo and cheer as they like, and they won’t get thrown out of the theater! (You’ll still be asked to turn your cell phone off, though.) 


This summer, the Yorkshire Playhouse brings a bombastic melodrama to the stage! Because Their Hearts Were Pure (or The Secret of the Mine) is a hilarious, family-friendly story written by Morland Cary. It follows recently betrothed Melody Truelove and Goodwin Dalrymple, who have inherited a family mine from their widowed mothers. But the starry-eyed lovers face off against Sebastian Hardacre, an evil banker who wants to steal the mine for himself! Who will lay claim to the silver that is rumored to be hidden within the mine?


Yorkshire Playhouse will be presenting Because Their Hearts Were Pure (or The Secret of the Mine) on July 30th - August 4th. Auditions will be open for all ages! This is just one of five main-season shows coming to the Yorkshire Playhouse in 2024! If you are interested in coming in a large group or plan on seeing more than one show this season, consider purchasing a membership!


How much do the memberships cost?

There are three different options for memberships:

5 Tickets: $75 [You save $10]

10 Tickets: $145 [You save $25]

15 Tickets: $215 [You save $40]

Individual tickets for a main-season show are $17, but with a membership, you can buy any additional tickets for only $15! 


Which shows can I see with my membership tickets?

You can use your membership tickets on any of the five main-season shows. In 2024, that includes:

  • Pride and Prejudice by Kate Hamill–adapted from the novel by Jane Austen

  • The Cemetery Club by Ivan Menchell

  • Because Their Hearts Were Pure (or The Secret of the Mine) by Morland Cary

  • The Stranger by Agatha Christie

  • A Christmas Carol by Patrick Barlow


Why should I buy a membership?

If you see more than one show on that list that interests you, buying a membership will save you money on tickets! If you like to watch shows with your family or friends, you can also save money on a single show by purchasing all of the tickets together. We want you to save money and see more shows!
